I am a registered counselor associate and love working with neurodivergent populations. In my personal life, I have 2 siblings with different forms of neurodivergency. Growing up with neurodivergent family members allowed me to understand different communication styles, including non-verbal communication skills to better help my family. I also have been a Direct Support Professional (DSP) and have a broad understanding of disabilities and impairments, allowing me to help people with disabilities felt heard, but also to provide additional resources, support, and empathy. I like to think of myself as a very casual and friendly counselor, and would love to spend the first few sessions building rapport to make sure you feel safe, respected, and free from judgement!
You can expect a mixture of humor, casual atmosphere, a lack of judgement, but also no sugar-coating. I find that direct communication has always been my style, but that sometimes people are afraid to have someone tell them harsh realities. This doesn't mean I'm going to be mean, but it means that I will not lie to you, something you should want and expect from a professional trying to help. You can also expect clear boundaries and communications; if I don't know an answer to something, I will let you know and consult with others to find it for you.
Outside the office I love to spend time with my cat(s), play video games, bake all sorts of treats, and go for long drives. I currently have 1 cat named Kitty, and he may appear in our sessions. I am in the works to getting my 2nd cat soon. I also love to play video games, and currently Deadlock is one of my favorites. If you are also big into nerd hobbies or video games, bring them up in session! Its a great way to ease tensions and feel closer, and also have a common starting ground to remind you that I am a human just like you.
Sarah will get back to you to set up a first conversation.
